Prayer is one of those words that, like love, has different meanings and permutations. Not understanding what we are dealing with can leave us bewildered if our expectations are not in alignment with the principles within which prayer operates. This is a vast topic on one hand, and beautifully simple on the other. I prefer the simple for this reason: prayer is the love that goes between the Lover and the beloved, or the lover and the Beloved. There is a difference between the two, yet there isn’t.
Because humans have constructed complex societies we have constructed complex prayers to compensate. These prayers are good. I am thinking here about prayers such as in liturgy, ritual, or prayers for specific purposes such as novenas. Prayer helps us to remember those things that we forget as we go about the business of our day. They help us to remember that there is that which is greater than we, that there is more than the physical universe, that life is eternal.
Prayer is always relational. How do I approach this relationship?
Prayer is a form of relationship that connects the one praying with the Divine and that for which the prayer is offered, seeking only the highest and best for all. Intercessory prayer is simply just such a relationship. If you would like prayer offered, send the intention to: lightsways@gmail.com Your intention will be held in prayer in the manner described two sentences up. All is offered in love through Love and released with the trust that Divine grace is enough, as the Divine is Love and sufficient for all. This is not always easy to believe, which is one reason for asking for prayer.
From time to time we will continue to explore the variety of prayer. Until then, let’s pray for each other. Daniel+
